They are signed by a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) or NSW — an engineer whose registration is a legal credential, not just a professional title. When a building certifier or council requires a structural certificate, they are asking for the engineer's professional endorsement that the work meets the required standard.

Types of structural certifications we issue
Different stages of a project require different types of structural certificates. The following outlines the most common certificates we prepare and the circumstances in which each is required.
Section 6.2 Design Certificates
Issued under Section 6.2 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, these certificates confirm that structural drawings and documentation comply with the NCC and applicable Australian Standards. Required by building certifiers before a Construction Certificate is issued. Our Section 6.2 certificates include a review of the structural design, documentation of the scope of works, and sign-off by our Registered Professional Engineer.
Structural Adequacy Certificates
A structural adequacy certificate confirms that an existing or completed structure meets the required structural standard. Commonly required for property sales, insurance claims, council compliance orders, refinancing, and due diligence assessments. These certificates follow a site inspection, review of available documentation, and an engineering assessment of the structure's capacity against the applicable loads and standards.
NCC Compliance Certificates
The National Construction Code (NCC) sets the minimum performance requirements for all buildings in Australia. NCC compliance certificates document how a structural design meets the requirements of NCC Volume One Section B (Structure) or Volume Two for Class 1 and 10 buildings. These are commonly required where an alternative solution or non-standard construction method is used and the building certifier requires independent engineering confirmation of compliance.
Construction Stage Certificates
Issued during construction at nominated hold points — typically after reinforcement placement, formwork completion, or structural element installation. Construction stage certificates confirm that the work has been inspected and meets the engineered design. Required by building certifiers as part of the construction monitoring process and as a condition of the Construction Certificate or Development Approval.

How the structural certification process works
Review & Site Assessment
We review the structural drawings, specifications, and relevant documentation. For existing structures, we conduct a site inspection to assess the as-built condition. Our engineers review soil reports, structural calculations, and any prior documentation relevant to the certificate scope.
Engineering Assessment
We undertake an engineering assessment of the structure against the applicable standards — checking load paths, connections, member capacity, footing adequacy, and compliance with NCC requirements. Where calculations are required to support the certificate, we prepare them as part of our scope.
RPE-Signed Certificate
The final certificate is prepared and signed by our Registered Professional Engineer. The certificate documents the scope of assessment, the standards applied, any qualifications or conditions, and the engineer's professional endorsement. It is issued in a format accepted by councils and building certifiers across NSW.
